Classic Beef Lasagna

Layers of rich meat sauce, creamy béchamel, and tender pasta sheets baked until bubbly and golden.

Ingredients

  • 12 sheets lasagna sheets
  • 500 g ground beef
  • 1 medium onion (diced)
  • 3 cloves garlic cloves (minced)
  • 800 g canned crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 250 g ricotta cheese
  • 300 g mozzarella (shredded)
  • 50 g parmesan (grated)
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper

Steps

  1. 1Preheat oven to 190 °C (375 °F).
  2. 2Heat olive oil in a large pan. Cook onion and garlic until softened (3 min).
  3. 3Add ground beef and brown, breaking it up (5-7 min). Drain excess fat.
  4. 4Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer 20 min.
  5. 5Mix ricotta, egg, and half the parmesan in a bowl.
  6. 6Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  7. 7Layer: lasagna sheets → ricotta mixture → meat sauce → mozzarella. Repeat 3 times.
  8. 8Top with remaining mozzarella and parmesan.
  9. 9Cover with foil and bake 25 min. Remove foil and bake 15 min more until golden.
  10. 10Rest 10 minutes before slicing.
